Plane Crash Scare In Adamawa

 

A plane crash was averted in Yola, Adamawa State today, October 10, as a military jet lost both its rear tyres while at the airport, Nigerian Eye reports.

The plane, believed to be used for operations against Boko Haram, was reportedly trying to take-off when the tyres came off.

A source reportedly told Nigerian Eye that the incident occurred at about 2.30pm and caused panic among the airport officials and others who were present.

Emergency respondents were said to have rushed to the scene and the airport runway was temporarily closed.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday in Abuja welcomed greater support for the war against terrorism from the country’s neighbours.
Jonathan spoke at an audience with Mr Emmanuel Ngondet, a Special Envoy of President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, said in a statement.
Abati quoted the president as applauding the renewed commitment of Niger, Chad, Benin Republic and Cameroun to joining forces with Nigeria to rid the West African sub-region of terrorism and violent extremism.
According to him, Jonathan reiterated his view that terrorist attacks on one country must be seen as an affront to all civilised nations.

TB Joshua To Appear in Court On Monday Over Collapse Building

 

The founder and general overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) Prophet TB Joshua will appear in court on Monday over the collapse of a six-storey building that collapsed in his church at Ikotun, Lagos state Western Nigeria.
The collapsed killed over 90 victims while over 100 were rescued from the debris, most of whom were South Africans.
Following the incident, the Lagos State government set up a judicial panel to look into the cause of the collapse building.
The panel is scheduled to start sitting on Monday 13 October at the Lagos State Hight court at Ikeja, Lagos.
Our correspondent gathered that all the parties involved have been summoned to appear before the panel when it begins sitting.

Nigeria Donates N574M To Aid Efforts Against Ebola In affected West African countries

Nigeria has made a contribution of $3.5m (574,874,061.52) to aid the fight against Ebola in West Africa, Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said on Wednesday, October 8.

Chukwu also said that 591 health practitioners had volunteered to go to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to contribute to efforts against the disease.

The minister reportedly disclosed this while speaking to State House correspondents at a Federal Executive Council meeting which had President Goodluck Jonathan in attendance.

Man kills his wife after prophet told him she was using his star

 A Man has been arrested by the Nigerian police over the murder of a middle-aged woman, identified as Silifat Yakubu.She was allegedly killed by her husband, Ismail Yakubu, at Igbele, near Araromi Ale Olorunda Local Council Development Area, along Badagry Expressway in Lagos.

It was gathered that the mutilated body of the deceased was found in a small river located at the community’s entrance, where she was supposedly dumped after she was murdered.
Vanguard gathered that,  some of the victim’s body parts, such as her eyes, breasts and uterus, were allegedly missing when her corpse was found by passersby, suggesting that she must have been murdered for ritual purposes.

President Jonathan showers over N300m on Okagbare, Oshoala others (Read)

 

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday splashed over N300 million on athletes and their officials who made the country proud at different international competitions in 2014.
Jonathan announced the cash rewards at a reception in honour of the 351 sports men and women at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
NAN reports that among the athletes were those who participated in the African Senior Athletics Championships in Marrakech, Morocco, and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Others were participants in the African Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana; the World Junior Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, and the 2014 FIFA Female U-20 Football World Cup in Montreal, Canada.
The list included athletes in the Partille World Handball Youth Championships, in Sweden; the World Powerlifting championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the African Shooting Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
Also in the list were participants in the African Senior Wrestling Championship and the African Junior Wrestling Championship.
In a remark, Jonathan reassured Nigerians that his administration was determined to ensure that all sectors of national life were given the necessary motivation to achieve set goals.
